ISRAELIS AND PALESTINIANS NONVIOLENT DEMONSTRATORS ASSAULTED DURING A MARCH
AGAINST PLANNED SECURITY WALL
Soldiers and police assaulted several Palestinian injuring them. A
Palestinian old woman has been shoved to the ground and kicked.
The High Court is still pondering about real security need of the planned
wall.
At-Tuwani, South Hebron Area:
This morning Israeli police assaulted and beat hard several Palestinian from
the village of At Tuwani, South Hebron Hills area, while they were
nonviolently demonstrating against the construction of the new security
wall.
The proposed wall is an 14 km long and 80cm high concrete barrier on the
north side of the Road 317, and will prevent access for Palestinians of
Massafer Yatta to larger population centers in the north, affecting the
basic human rights for the people in the area. A report on the impact of

Otherwise decisions are still pending in Israeli high court cases regarding
the construction of the wall and the confiscation of land to build the wall,
costruction works are going on since several days.
Palestinians from At-Tuwani and the whole Massafer Yatta area decided to
call a demonstration to protest nonviolently the construction of the wall.
The protest has been joined by several Israelis and internationals. Before
the beginning of the march Israeli police arrived in At-Tuwani, set up a
checkpoint preventing people to join the demostration, declared the area a
`closed military zone` and tried to block the partecipant that were marching
to the Road 317.
The demonstrators reached the main road and sit on the sides of the road in
order not to interfere with the traffic on Road 317. At noon the army
ordered the demonstrators to disperse. As they refused to leave the area,
the police arrested five Israeli demonstrators and then the police and
soldiers assaulted several village men including a seventy years old woman
that was pushed several times on the ground and kicked in the stomach. Some
Palestinians, Israelis and international activists have been pushed on the
ground. A men has been kicked in his face.
After being beaten, two Palestinians men have been arrested with the charge
of assaulting policemen but eyewitnesses and video footage confirm that they
were completely non-violent throughout.
The Israelis activist arrested have been released, meanwhile the two
Palestinans are still detained at Kiryat Arba Police station.
This morning also, seven settlers from nearby settlement of Maon, threw
stones against one sheperd grazing on his land in a nearby area. This is the
most recent aggressive action made by settlers from Maon and Havat Maon
outpost, to force the local Palestinians to leave.
According to the United Nation, At-Tuwani village and all Masafer Yatta area
is one of the most poor area in West Bamnk and is under settlers and army
harassment since 1997, when groups of extremist ultranazionalist settlers
